In this publication Steve Almond reveals email communications. It seems that an editor wanted Almond to contribute to an anthology. AS things played out it became clear that the editor was paid a fifty-thousand dollar advance against future royalties, and yet he wanted Steve to give up his work for free. Almond liked the idea, and wanted to do it, but given the fact that one person was being paid (a lot of) money, he didn’t think he should work for nothing. Things went to hell quickly.
